Life is a sequence of events and thoughts

The world around us is known to us starting from a certain day after birth. We don't remember the day of our birth. Do we? Do you? Just try and recall the earliest moment that was perceived in this world. There may be a few that one would recall. To me, I remember a few events, sure. Can't tell the order of occurrence though. I remember someone hold me up and I asked for an old fragile doll.  It was promptly denied.  I remember waking up from sleep and crying out with sadness for the world did not make any sense at all and was freightening. How about you? Take a moment and try.

Anyhow, the point being made here is, it is all just a memory today. Similarly, what is the first dream I had? Again there are a few. So both events of the world and events of the dream are mere memories for us today. However, we cannot say that dream and waking state are therefore same.

The waking state has had a continuity. Not the dreams. Dreams may have occurred in continuity on certain occasions. That is all about it. Whereas, waking state is a continuous happening. Hence more real.

Waking state is more real for sure. Hence can we conclude that it is the only reality? We cannot. Let us evaluate. If waking state is continous, and the only reality then all the people that we have ever known should continue living. Is it not so? Several people that we have known have stopped functioning and are non-existent. So for them, this world's reality is finished. Can we say that? Let us now apply the same principle on us. The world as we know it, this continuous happening of events started on its own. Lets go slow now. It started on its own and it will end on its own. Isn't it true?

I existed before the first occurrance of any event in this world that I came to know of. Follow this? I should have existed to observe the first event. I still exist and am observing events. I will exist till I observe the last event. After that, I may not be able to observe the events of this world but I would continue to exist.

So my existence is the actual reality and my body's existence in this world perceiving events is relatively not as real. Correct?

To live a life wholly dependent on the waking state, is foolish. It is definitely useful in a certain practical way so far as the continuity of events is concerned. However for the "me" that is beyond the perceived continuity of events, all that is, is just perception of events and occurrance of thoughts in a certain sequence.
